We are a happy band of large and small animal residents, primarily equines, living in a teaching and healing sanctuary dedicated to the oneness of all life. For most of us, HDLM is our lifetime home. While the sanctuary was helping animals for several years before incorporation, HDLM has been an official 501(c)(3) since May 1996. Our home is accredited by the American Sanctuary Association and is approved as a National Thoroughbred Equine Retirement and Re-homing Facility. Our family currently includes 125 equines: burros (which means donkey in Spanish), horses, mules and hinnies, and a pony. A few old dogs and wonderful barn cats live here, too. We have come to HDLM from wild places like Death Valley and the BLM, and from private homes and other welfare groups from Arizona, California, Nevada and beyond. Some of us were racehorses. Many of us arrived significantly underweight and with issues such as injured knees, bad feet, and other injuries. We now live in a place where lives are changed - our lives and the lives of those who care for and about us. We are los Milagros, the miracles, of HDLM.
